You had planned to freak out over your first bad grade or your first round of college exams or even your first college relationship going south, but you most definitely did not plan to be freaking out over this…an unplanned pregnancy while you’re still a college student.
This was not supposed to happen to you in college. College was supposed to be fun and prepare you for your next phase in life, but now you have this new big thing in your life that’s quite frankly freaking you out more than anything else ever has. Not too long ago, I wrote another blog post about parenting a baby while being a college student, and what I said in that post is still true…it is 100% ok to freak out about this. Nobody is going to judge you for worrying or not knowing what to do. What we will do is offer our help and hope because we know that your situation may be scary and overwhelming, and we are more than happy to help you here at Compass if you want us to. Or maybe you are a little excited but need help figuring things out.
One of our latest blog posts is on this subject was directed toward West Virginia University college students, but most of what I talked about there in terms of your rights as a pregnant or parenting college student are true no matter what college you go to, so please check out that blog and learn more about your rights.
Right now, though, we are going to talk a little bit about the resources that are available to you in your area as a Fairmont State college student.
First, we know that this situation is probably so overwhelming, and we want you to know that you do not have to go through any of this alone or figure anything out by yourself. We here at Compass would be more than happy to help you, but you do not need to drive all the way to Morgantown if you don’t want to or can’t because of transportation. The Pregnancy Resource Center of Marion County is also available to you anytime and would be happy to help you figure this out. The Pregnancy Resource Center of Marion County is conveniently located in Fairmont.
We also know that anxiety and depression may come with an unexpected and scary situation such as an unplanned pregnancy, and that is perfectly normal. However, it is also something that you need to make sure you take care of quickly. Fairmont State University offers counseling services that you can utilize as one of their students, so if you feel like having somebody to talk to will help you, then definitely give them a call.
Like I said before, freaking out is totally normal, but you don’t have to freak out about dealing with this by yourself because there are plenty of people around that are happy to help you. Take a breath, friend! Whether you want to stay close to home at the Pregnancy Resource Center of Marion County or travel to Morgantown to talk with somebody at Compass, know you are completely supported as you go through this new journey.
You have options. There is support. Your future is SO bright.
Contact us today, and we will be happy to walk this road with you.
